Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course in which a series of simulated pediatric emergencies are used to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
The one day renewal course is for those who are current in their PALS certification
Certification Requirements:
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification is required for this course.
- Current American Heart Association PALS certification is required for this course.
- St. Joseph's Health ONLY recognizes AHA certifications—no exceptions.
Pre-Course Self-Assessment Requirement:
All students are required to complete the online pre-course self-assessment with a score of 70% or higher.

Important Instructions:
- Print Your Assessment Results: After completing the assessment, print your results and bring them to class.
- Present to Instructor: You must present both the printed assessment results, your current BLS and PALS certification to the instructor at the beginning of the course.
- Admission Requirement: You will not be admitted to the course without these documents.
Dress Code Policy:
- Employees of St. Joseph's Health are required to adhere to the organization’s dress code policy when attending the class.
Student Manual Requirement:
- All students must obtain a student manual prior to the course. This manual will serve as both a resource during the class and a reference for the multiple-choice examination.

For Non-Employees:
- Non-employees are responsible for purchasing the PALS Provider Manual (ISBN 978-1-61669-785-3) from a bookseller of their choice.
